Plays and Concerts

Built in 2000, the EM Forster Theatre is now recognised as one of the foremost theatres in the South East and hosts performances by leading national companies as well as by local community groups. The theatre is also the focus of the annual Tonbridge Arts Festival. The main auditorium has 368 seats and a large stage measuring 11.6 metres deep from the back wall to the front of the thrust and 20.4 metres wide including nearly 6 metres in each wing. The theatre also boasts a large range of lighting and sound equipment. There is also a smaller studio space seating up to 114 which is well suited to small-scale and experimental performances. As part of the service to hirers, we provide a fully-staffed licensed bar, a front of house manager, ushers and a theatre technician. We also provide a complete box office service.

The school also has a number of spaces which are suitable for different kinds of concert. The chapel, which seats up to around 600 is ideal for choral and orchestral works, whilst Big School, suitable for orchestral works, chamber music and solo piano recitals, seats up to 350. Finally, the Recital Room, also suited to intimate concerts and recitals, seats up to 120.
